The Pioneer, established 1970.

It's been over 52 years since our Dad built our family cabin on an unknown ski hill known as Panorama, BC. His dream was to build a getaway place when he was in the Air Force, where he fell in love with the ski hills of Europe, skiers came on and off the hill enjoying a beautiful meal, up the chair to another country, and ski another run, creating a place as a ski out escape was his intention, the cabin is modelled after the A-Frames he saw in France, Italy and Switzerland. He also decided to build in Panorama by tossing a coin, either Panorama or Big White in Kelowna, and thankfully he chose Panorama as it was only 3 1/2 hours away from Calgary. He chose to build near the base of the rope tow and in 1974 when he moved the cabin to a river lot after a fire occurred behind us. Being very young at the time, it was magical to see an entire cabin be moved to the river lot where it remains today. Since 1974 he has added two additions to make more room for friends and family. I was so happy last December to step outside just after we hung the tree lights on the tree and photograph the cabin at dusk.

While it may sadden my heart to say goodbye, it is my hope a young family also enjoys the simplicity of the place, and children play outside, enjoy meals, roast marshmallows and enjoy the animals. The cabin is a piece of all of us, and in our hearts, "The Pioneer" remains.
