Rosebud Arts Collective Weekend

Early June was the Rosebud Arts Collective's (RAC) En Plein Air 2-day workshop. Many talented artists gathered from around Canada and shared enthusiasm for gear, colours, techniques, and the joy of painting outside. Cam Forrester is a self-taught landscape painter from Saskatchewan. Cam led the weekend as our mentor, with encouraging support and went over three techniques he uses as to what holds a viewer's eye.

Joined by pleasant weather, good people and top notch hosting by the collective. Rosebud is a wonderful artist community. We began the weekend at a relaxed fire pit gatherings and a visit inside Speer and Brush Artist's studio and gallery. Saturday consisted of demos and afternoon applications of what we learned, the evening followed by a tasty buffet meal and live performance at the Rosebud Theatre. Sunday we spent a great time above the town of Rosebud to come back together mid-afternoon to look at our creations. For the entire weekend we painted outside swarmed by bird song, bugs as the skies danced before us. We enjoyed our stay at a private little cottage lovingly cared for by Julia. The cottage is near the grain elevators and old railroad train bed. The community has many bed and. breakfasts and a campground. At times you can smell the creosote mixed in with sage and growing crops among the summer winds.

Here are some highlights of the weekend including 5 -8"x10" studies in acrylic.

Thank you Rosebud Arts Collective and all the wonderful sponsors. I will certainly try my best to make good use out of free one-month event membership with Mastrius, Who knows where the learning will go? Happy painting!
